School Magazine Flat Plans

I created three flat plan templates in the design of my school magazine.

I interviewed my focus group further about which template style they think would work best and why, and asked them if they had any recommendations about the features of the magazine.

Flat Plan Templates:
Template 1:

Template 2:

Template 3:

Focus Group Results Pie Chart:

I agree that template 2 will suite my school magazine best, as did 3 out of 4 people in my focus group.

Comments for template 2:

"I like the layout of template 2 because it is simple and easy to read and keeps with the style of other magazines like it"
"Template 2 has enough features to make the magazine seem worth reading, but the text is still clear on the page"
"The title needs to be large enough to attract the correct audience, but it shouldn't block the picture, which is why I think template 2 will be most appealing"

Extra Features Recommended to Implement

I asked my focus group about any particular featues they thought may benefit a school magazine and keep its readers interested. Features we came up with were:

  • Agony Aunt style section
  • New Head Girl Interview/Discussion with old head girl
  • Current Events/School Trips
  • Teacher interviews/introduce new staff
  • Table of dates of future events, so that students can keep organised
  • A quiz feature, where students can win prizes
  • Front page needs to be modern, and interesting, with an appealing picture
